How do you want to be perceived by others at work? You may need to leave the beach or family or sporting 'you' at the door when you get to work. It might involve compartmentalising your emotions for the time that you’re at work and looking and acting the part of your work role:
- Use appropriate language (no foul language, minimal use of slang or abbreviations)
- Dress in a neat and appropriate manner for the environment – conservative, neat, no schlepping along in thongs, nothing too tight and, generally speaking, no tattoos peeking out
- Do not use strong scents, perfumes or colognes – be aware of how you smell. That goes for smokers, too!
- Maintain good posture – when standing or sitting – this helps to present a positive image.
