Nike Sweatshops: Behind the Swoosh

This documentary goes for 20 minutes – it follows the journey of Jim Keady and Lesley Kretzu, both practising Catholics, who filmed oppressive and exploitative labour practices in Indonesia at one Nike factory in 2000.

Note how the conditions of the workers is also tied up to

  • Environmental issues

  • Health issues

  • Education

  • Intergenerational poverty

  • Justice and fairness more broadly.

Now, Nike has a Code of Conduct that addresses many of the issues that Keady, Kretzu and others raised. Nike is considered by some to be a leader in Global Corporate Citizenship – although groups like Educating for Justice have to keep them true to their word.
