There are different views about what EQ is and isn’t.
Some researchers prefer to talk about Emotional Literacy rather than EI or EQ. The reason being that “intelligence” is regarded as the intellectual capacity of humans – through which people think, learn and reason. That is, intelligence is fixed and determined.
Emotional Literacy is characterised by the fact that all the emotional behaviours and influences in our lives are learnt – and so can develop, change and be taught.
The idea of Emotional Literacy is often attractive to educators while EQ is more attractive to people who think in terms of the "science" of human behaviours.
People often talk about three different models of EQ (select the buttons to view criticisms of each model).
This module mostly refers to a Mixed Model.
