Information and support

There are many resources out there for first time entrepreneurs. Here’s some to get you started:

  • Entrepreneur.com is an entrepreneur website and magazine from the US.
  • In Australia, Business Review Weekly has a section for entrepreneurs.
  • All Australian banks have resources to support people starting a business: from toolkits that help you to control your cash flow to business plans. As a starting point, check out "the Big 4":
    • ANZ has a Small Business Hub.
    • Commonwealth Bank has tools to help you check your business idea.
    • Westpac has resources to support small business.
    • NAB has similar resources on their business tips website. NAB also has a microfinance loan to help start-ups. Watch this video about a great new business in Melbourne. In particular, watch and listen out for the line about the 120 business plan!

Government resources to support entrepreneurs include websites with information, templates, people to call and events to attend: 

  • The Federal Government has a website (and a department) devoted to supporting business.
  • State governments also have sites to support business. Here are three, but each state and territory offers similar assistance:

The Australian (and the global) economy relies on people setting up businesses – that’s why governments support business and provide incentives.
