Cable schedule

A cable schedule is a table of information about cables for a particular installation. This can relate to cables for power, lighting, communication, security, fire, etc. A building floor plan would often be associated with the cable schedule and the type of information shown could include:

  • length
  • type and size
  • colour
  • termination detail
  • to and from devices
  • route
  • conduit detail.

The information can be used to:

  • estimate quantity of cable and total costs for a given job
  • identify termination points from plan to actual job
  • identify specific cable during diagnosis and/or testing.

Cable schedules are not commonly used for domestic installations, but will be used for more complex situations. A sample of the type of data that may be found on the schedule is shown in the table below. The ID as shown in the first column would correspond to a cable ID number that might be included on any or all of the building plan, circuit, or wiring diagrams.
