Protection

Section 1.5 of the AS/NZ3000 (Australian Electrical Standard) outlines the rules about protection against the dangers of electric shock.

The purpose of the regulations is to protect persons, livestock and property against dangers and damage that may arise in the reasonable use of electrical installations.

Protection must be provided against electric shock arising from contact with parts that become live.

Contact with parts that become live in normal service is called direct contact.

Contact with parts that become live under fault conditions is called indirect contact.
