Introduction

This module looks at the ways that you can create a positive impression in an interview or at work. Your name and reputation is a type of brand – people, like goods in the market place, provoke a certain response from others – either positive (reliable, creative, a go-getter) or negative (unreliable, inefficient, untrustworthy).

"Personal branding is about managing your name — even if you don’t own a business — in a world of misinformation, disinformation, and semi-permanent Google records. Going on a date? Chances are that your 'blind' date has Googled your name. Going to a job interview? Ditto."
Tim Ferriss, The 4-Hour Work Week

This module looks at some connected areas to improve your name, marketability and confidence when applying for jobs:

1. Professionalism

2. Differentiation

3. Perceptions

4. Your Online Profile

Some activities in this module are adapted from exercises in the book Brand You by John Purkiss and David Royston-Lee (Pearson International, 2012). You can find this book online at the RMIT library.
