This module aims to increase awareness and knowledge of cultural diversity and to improve your ability to engage with culturally diverse colleagues, clients and communities.
This module is divided into four parts:
- Diversity & Business
- Cultural awareness
- Cross cultural competency
- Cross cultural awareness and communication.
The first part - Diversity and Business- asks you to define diversity. We'll look at a profile of the Australian population to indicate the extent of cultural diversity - as in nationalities, ethnicities, languages and religions - within businesses and local communities. The second part - Cultural awareness - asks you to consider your cultural standpoint and cultural bias and to challenge cultural stereotypes. The third part - Cross cultural competency - looks at the elements that underpin culture and the knowledge, skills and awareness you need to interact successfully with culturally diverse clients and colleagues. Finally, we look at communication and highlights how cultural competence is more than awareness of cultural differences. you will learn some strategies to understand, communicate with, and effectively interact with people across cultures.
