What is fire?
The application on the page shows an interactive version of the diagram known as a 'fire triangle'.
It shows that when the following three elements exist:
- oxygen
- heat
- fuel.
A chemical reaction that creates a fire may occur. This is represented in the diagram by showing the triangle over the top of a background fire.
Extinguishing a fire involves removing one of the elements. This is represented on the diagram by moving the mouse over any one of the three elements in the triangle and the background fire going out.
