Evidence
Evidence is the information you provide to your assessor to support your claims of prior learning and current competence. Evidence comes in many forms and a collation of evidence is commonly referred to as a 'portfolio of evidence'.
Here are some examples of different types of evidence that candidates have provided during RCC/RPL assessment interviews:
- work samples relevant to the competency
- verbal presentation and answering questions
- job description
- reference from employer
- awards won for work in this area
- electronic or hard copies of products
- testimonials/references/letters of verification
- job contracts/résumés
- training plans/contracts/memoranda of understanding
- VET related project work.
When considering evidence to prove your prior learning and current competence, you must consider all possibilities. Recognition can be granted against:
- the workplace (job experience or in-house training)
- formal training sessions (qualifications or formal training courses)
- life experience (volunteer tutor program, community involvement etc).
All the evidence you provide must meet the rules of evidence, which are:
- authenticity - is it your own work?
- validity - how does it relate to the evidence requirements of the unit(s)?
- currency - does it show recent use of skills and knowledge?
- sufficiency - is there enough evidence to show consistent use of the skills and knowledge to grant recognition?
When the assessor is confident that all the criteria have been sufficiently satisfied, recognition for the unit(s) will be granted.
