The video shows how a builder uses a four fold ruler to measure:
The audio for the video is as follows:
"The folding ruler I use that sometimes for measuring the width of items such as this one, so we get our ruler out and put one finger against the side, keep my finger and the ruler on the very edge of the piece of timber that makes sure it's starting at zero. Now I move along and look for the 100 mark is the first of the major divisions, the next division along is 80, so that's 180 and now look at the smallest divisions and the first one lining up with the other edge of the timber is 9, so that's one hundred and eighty nine (189).
The other type of measure that I might do with my ruler is on a longer piece and doing a longer measurement and in this case I want to mark this piece of timber out at 725. Once again start with the ruler on the edge so that I'm on zero, hold the ruler so that it doesn't move, I'm looking for 700, so 700 is the major division and 20 plus 5 is where I would mark my piece of timber."
